A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting two police officers in the state’s south overnight.
About 12.40am (Saturday 10 April 2021), officers attached to Monaro Police District were conducting patrols when they observed a group of people congregated on the road outside a licensed premise on Sharp Street, Cooma.
While moving the group off the road, a 23-year-old man became aggressive and allegedly threw punches towards the officers.
Police attempted to arrest the man, and during a struggle, he allegedly punched a male constable in the face, and pushed a male senior constable to the ground.
The man was restrained with assistance from members of the public, before being taken to Cooma Police Station where he was charged with behave in offensive manner in/near public place/school, three counts of assault police officer in execution of duty, two counts of resist police in execution of duty, and possess prohibited drug.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Cooma Local Court on Wednesday 5 May 2021.
The senior constable was taken to Cooma Hospital for treatment; however, he has since been released.
