Regional tourism will get a boost with the launch of a new Distillery Trail highlighting locations and offerings from South Australia’s award winning and burgeoning spirits industry.
The development of the trail by the South Australian Spirit Producers Association (SASPA), has been co-funded by the Marshall Liberal Government.
Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development David Basham said the Distillery Trail is designed to promote South Australia’s world leading spirits.
“South Australia’s spirit producers have been punching above their weight with award wins on the global and national stage and it is important we continue to promote these success stories,” said Minister Basham.
“Despite only making up 12 per cent of the nation’s spirit industry, our producers have forged a reputation for not only premium products but unique experiences at distilleries.
“We have seen remarkable growth in this industry and despite the challenging times with COVID-19 local consumers are keen to support our quality South Australian spirit producers.
“This Distillery Trail is a wonderful one-stop shop for consumers and holidaymakers as they explore South Australia and this will help provide a boost to regional tourism when we need it most.
“With many boutique businesses setting up outside metropolitan Adelaide, the Distillery Trail gives visitors another reason to explore the great things regional South Australia has to offer.”
SASPA President George Georgiadis said the Distillery Trail showcases a growing number of award-winning distilleries around the state.
“South Australian Gin and Whisky in particular are up there with the best in the world,” said Mr Georgiadis.
“We know we have incredible food and wine in the state, and now we’re proud to add spirits to the food and beverage landscape. To be successful in South Australia you need to create products that are of the highest quality.
“It’s been a turbulent year for this industry, like many, but consumers have shown their desire to choose local products in bottle shops and online and support distillery doors that are lucky enough to trade across the state.”
In addition to the development of the trail, government funding has been provided to support a two day specialist forum at Lot 100 in the Adelaide Hill’s Hay Valley next year. Both the forum and the Distillery Trail have been developed thanks to a State Government grant of $15,000.
Now available online (https://saspa.org.au/distillery-trail/), the trail shows you the location of distilleries right across the state and highlights key information, as well as a special offer for those who mention they are visiting as part of the Distillery Trail.
