The final curtain call for The Broadway Duplication is on the horizon, with three of four stages now complete.
The $11.5 million project is constructing a second carriageway of The Broadway up to Bordeaux Lane, with the now complete Stage 3 duplicating the portion of road between Elmina Avenue and Westgrove Drive and upgrading the Westgrove Drive roundabout.
Federal Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, said the project will greatly improve safety and reduce congestion along the popular route.
“The estimated population in Ellenbrook has increased rapidly in just the last five years from 37,607 to more than 45,000 people, with continued growth in the region expected to create significant congestion and safety challenges on The Broadway,” Minister Fletcher said.
“Duplicating this section of The Broadway will support the area’s growth by busting congestion and bolstering safety, allowing both locals and visitors to get to their destinations sooner and safer.”
Western Australian Minister for Transport, the Hon Rita Saffioti MLA, said all levels of government were committed to working together to support the state’s economic recovery from COVID-19.
“We are building Western Australia’s economy back up from the pandemic by continuing to deliver critical local infrastructure projects like this,” Minister Saffioti said.
“The McGowan Government is spending more than $260 million a month on major transport infrastructure projects and these works complement other major infrastructure projects underway in the area, including the long anticipated METRONET Morel-Ellenbrook Line.”
Federal Member for Pearce, the Hon Christian Porter MP, said the completion of yet another stage of the project was a major milestone for the 16,000 vehicles that use The Broadway every day.
“As each stage of works wraps up, more and more locals will benefit from the improved road conditions,” Mr Porter said.
“This is a great example of how the Morrison Government is continuing to support local jobs and stimulate the economy at this critical time, with the entire project set to be complete by mid-2023.”
The final stage of the project will duplicate The Broadway from the Westgrove roundabout to Bordeaux Lane.
City of Swan Mayor, Cr Kevin Bailey, said he is excited to see significant progress on the project.
“The City is dedicated to reducing the strain on ratepayers to fund infrastructure projects, and we are grateful to the State and Federal governments for their significant contributions,” Mayor Bailey said.
“The Broadway is the key arterial route that allows access in and out of Ellenbrook, which is why keeping it free of traffic congestion is so important.”
The $2.2 million Stage 3 of the project was delivered by the City of Swan, with the Australian Government committing $740,000 under the Urban Congestion Fund and the Western Australian Government committing $1.46 million under the Metropolitan Regional Roads Group.
