Oxfam Trailwalker Sydney unites walkers to fight poverty and inequality

Oxfam Trailwalker, the iconic endurance fundraising event, returns to Sydney on 25 August. Two thousand of participants from all walks of life will join forces to tackle the breathtaking trails of the Sydney region, all while raising vital funds to support Oxfam’s life-changing work around the globe.

In its 24th year in Australia, the event brings together individuals, teams, and communities committed to making a difference in the world. Participants challenge their physical and mental limits by completing a gruelling 100-kilometre, 55-kilometre or 27-kilometre, as part of a team.

This year’s trail takes participants through some of Sydney’s most stunning natural landscapes-from the picturesque Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park to the majestic Hawkesbury River.

Oxfam Trailwalker is not just a test of endurance; it is a powerful platform for change. The event aims to raise funds and awareness for Oxfam’s programs and initiatives, and teams have raised a massive $1.25 million so far to help people in poverty across the globe.

Lyn Morgain, Oxfam Australia’s Chief Executive, expressed her gratitude to the participants and supporters ahead of the event.

“Trailwalker is a remarkable event that unites people from all backgrounds and abilities to make a lasting impact on the lives of those in need. By participating in the event, individuals and teams can directly contribute to tackling the issues that keep people living in poverty; whether that’s climate change, gender or economic inequality or humanitarian emergencies,” said Ms Morgain.

“Earlier this year we witnessed devastating earthquakes in Turkiye and Syria and a destructive cyclone in Bangladesh and Myanmar. Meanwhile, the global hunger crisis threatens millions of lives. The support of our fantastic walkers makes a real impact to the lives of people impacted by these types of emergencies.

“It’s incredible that Sydney-siders have raised more than $1.25million for people living in poverty, and the event, Australia-wide, has raised more than $100 million since it began in 1999.

“We are so grateful to every participant, supporter, and volunteer who continues to walk with us, step by step, towards a brighter future. It really is the greatest adventure you’ll ever share.” she added.
