Parkes Shire Council Begins Key Sewer Upgrade For SAP Development

Parkes Shire

Parkes Shire Council (PSC) is pleased to announce we have commenced construction of a 1,650-meter gravity sewer main. This critical infrastructure project will connect the Parkes Special Activation Precinct (SAP) to Parkes’ existing sewerage network, ensuring seamless integration and supporting the region’s continued growth.

The new sewer main will commence at a point east of the intersection of Hartigan Avenue and Blaxland Street. From there, it will run along the northern side of Hartigan Avenue, cross to the southern side, and pass beneath the active rail corridor. The pipeline will continue eastward, crossing Forbes Road before reaching an existing manhole on Austral Street, directly linking the SAP to Parkes’ town sewerage system.

Parkes Shire Council’s Director of Infrastructure, Andrew Francis, highlighted the importance of this project.

“This project is a significant step forward in providing the necessary infrastructure to support the Parkes Special Activation Precinct. By integrating the SAP with our town’s sewerage network, we’re not only facilitating industrial development but also enhancing the efficiency and capacity of our existing systems. This is essential for the long-term sustainability and growth of our region,” Mr Francis said.

The project brings numerous benefits to the Parkes region, including:

  • Enhanced Wastewater Infrastructure: The new gravity sewer main will improve the efficiency and capacity of the existing sewerage system, ensuring reliable wastewater management for the Parkes SAP.
  • Economic Growth Support: By enabling industrial development within the SAP, the project will drive job creation and regional economic prosperity.
  • Public Health Protection: The project ensures safe and effective wastewater disposal, contributing to better public health and environmental protection.
  • Operational Efficiency: Streamlining the integration of new and existing sewerage systems will reduce the need for future upgrades and minimise operational costs.
  • Future-Ready Design: The infrastructure is designed to accommodate the long-term growth of the Parkes region, supporting an expanding population and future development needs.
  • Sustainability: This project is a vital contributor to the sustainable growth of Parkes, enhancing essential infrastructure and enabling the region to attract new businesses and residents.
  • Funding Support: The project is fully funded by the Rural Growth and Development Corporation, underlining its strategic importance to the region’s development.

Andrew Francis further emphasised the broader impact of the project.

“This project is not just about building a pipeline; it’s about laying the groundwork for the future of Parkes. The infrastructure we’re developing today will support the economic and social fabric of our community for years to come, driving growth, creating jobs, and ensuring that Parkes remains a vibrant place to live and work,” said Mr Francis.
