Four Parks Victoria team members were awarded the prestigious National Medal and Clasps this week for their long-standing service as Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) employees, working to protect communities and the environment from bushfires.
Leonie Dickins, Rodney Sloan, Colin Lyons and Noel Muller were awarded the medals at a virtual awards presentation with a group of fellow firefighters on Monday.
Their combined service of 90 years was celebrated with the larger group of recipients, who have amassed an inspiring total of more than 600 years protecting Victorian communities.
Leonie and Rodney received the National Medal for 15 years of service to FFMVic, while Colin was awarded a First Clasp for 25 years of service, and Noel received a First and Second Clasp for 35 years of dedicated work.
Most recently, they played a vital role in protecting and supporting Victorian communities during the Black Summer bushfires.
Established in 1975, the National Medal recognises long and diligent service by members of recognised government and voluntary organisations that risk their lives or safety to protect or assist the community in enforcement of the law or in times of emergency or natural disaster.
The award recipients also included 23 team members from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP).
