A 43-year-old Rockingham man will appear in court today (16 January 2022), charged with allegedly making 119 abusive phone calls to the Australian Federal Police (AFP).
Police will allege the man made multiple abusive, offensive and harassing phone calls to the AFP between January 14 and January 15.
On Saturday 15 January, 2022 the AFP attended an address in the Perth suburb of Rockingham. A man was arrested at the residence and a mobile phone seized for further examination.
The man is due to appear before Northbridge Magistrates Court today charged with using a carriage service to menace, harass, or cause offence.
If convicted he faces a maximum sentence of nine years imprisonment.
Acting Commander Western Command Graeme Marshall said the charge makes it clear no one should be harassed or threatened in the line of duty.
“It is vital for our staff to be able to perform their important work in safety and without harassment or abuse.”
“The AFP has a zero tolerance for those who would seek to menace our people and these charges are a reflection of this,” he said.
“These types of calls also waste valuable police resources and prevent staff from dealing with legitimate calls from the public.”
