Police charge five over conspiracy to commit home invasion in Redfern

Four men and a woman have been charged in connection to an alleged conspiracy to commit a home invasion in Sydney’s inner-city.

Detectives from State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad established Strike Force Shaughnessy to investigate the criminal activities of a group in Sydney.

Acting on information received, detectives, assisted by the Tactical Operations Unit (TOU) arrested four men – aged 19, 26, 27 and 32 – and a 23-year-old woman on Cope Street, Redfern, about 7.40pm yesterday (Thursday 5 December 2019).

They were allegedly found to be in possession of knives and face coverings.

The group were taken to Mascot Police Station and each charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and conspiracy to commit aggravated break, enter and steal.

Police will allege in court that the group were planning to commit a home invasion in the Redfern area.

The 26-year-old man was also charged with special aggravated kidnapping in relation to an incident which allegedly occurred in Lakemba on Thursday 25 July 2019.

All five were refused bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court today (Friday 6 December 2019).
