A man has been charged and his licence suspended for six months after being detected driving more than 100km/h over the speed limit in Sydney’s west last night.
Just before 9pm (Saturday 29 February 2020), police were conducting stationary speed enforcement duties on the Cumberland Highway, Greystanes, when they detected a Subaru WRX travelling in excess of the signposted 70km/h limit.
Officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command checked the vehicle’s speed using lidar – allegedly giving a reading of 180km/h.
The WRX was stopped just north of Merrylands Road and police spoke with the 28-year-old male driver.
He was subsequently charged by was of a Court Attendance Notice for exceed speed over 45kph and drive recklessly, furiously or at speed or manner dangerous.
The Quakers Hill man is due to appear at Fairfield Local Court on Tuesday 17 March 2020.
Police have also suspended the man’s licence for six months and seized his vehicle’s registration plates.
