A man has been charged over an alleged glassing and assault in Penrith earlier this year.
About 3.15am on Sunday 22 March 2026, officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command were called to a car park of a family restaurant in Mulgoa Road, Penrith, after reports of an assault.
Upon arrival, officers were told a number of unknown individuals allegedly carrying a machete approached a man before he was hit twice by a broken bottle and punched in the face.
The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before he was taken to Nepean Hospital where he underwent surgery for serious facial injuries.
He has since been released; however, police have been told the injuries will potentially have a life-long impact.
Investigators attached to Nepean Police Area Command established Strike Force Vegson to investigate the incident.
Following extensive inquiries – including the release of CCTV still images – about 5.30pm today (Thursday 18 June 2026), a 19-year-old man was arrested at St Mary’s Police Station.
The 19-year-old was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others, affray, and passenger not disclose driver’s/other passenger’s identity.
He was refused bail to appear before Penrith Local Court today (Friday 19 June 2026).
