Police Charge Man After Hit And Run Crash – Carlingford

A man has been charged after an alleged hit and run crash in Sydney’s north west yesterday.

About 12.30pm (Sunday 23 August 2026), emergency services were called to Ferndale Avenue, near Edinburgh Avenue, Carlingford, after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a car.

Officers attached to The Hills Police Area Command attended and found that a Nissan van had hit a pedestrian before the driver of the van allegedly ran from the scene.

The pedestrian – a 34-year-old man – was trapped under the vehicle and emergency services worked to free him, before NSW Ambulance paramedics treated him at the scene.

He was taken to Westmead Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Police established a crime scene and officers from the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following a search of nearby bushland, police arrested the alleged driver, a 29-year-old man, and he was subjected to a roadside breath test that returned an alleged positive result.

The man was taken to Castle Hill Police Station, where he allegedly refused to provide a breath analysis.

He was taken to Hornsby Hospital under police guard for mandatory testing.

The 29-year-old man was later returned to Castle Hill Police Station, where he was charged with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, refuse or fail to submit to breath analysis and not give particulars to police.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Monday 24 August 2026).
