Unidentified Young Man Found Critically Injured

Police are seeking assistance from the public to identify a young man who was found unresponsive along the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail in Glenroy on Sunday.

Officers were called to Kingsford Smith Ulm Reserve, to an area below the Moonee Ponds Creek Viaduct, for a welfare check on 23 August about 4.10pm.

A passer-by located the young man moaning and initially unconscious with no visible physical injuries.

He was treated by ambulance paramedics and taken to hospital where it was determined he had significant injuries and was critically injured.

The male, who is believed to be aged in his early 20s, did not have any belongings or identity documents with him and nothing of note was found at the scene.

Ongoing enquiries by police throughout the evening and overnight – which included checking missing person reports and an examination of his fingerprints and the scene – has failed to identify the young man.

Police have released a physical description of the male and what he was wearing in the hope it will assist in identifying him.

He is described as Caucasian in appearance, about 175cm tall, has a slim build, hazel-coloured eyes with no facial hair and shoulder length brown curly hair.

He was wearing a grey singlet top and ripped blue jorts, a style of baggy denim shorts. He also has residue of dark red nail polish on some fingernails.

At this early stage it is not believed he was assaulted however the circumstances surrounding what has occurred is unclear.

One possibility police are exploring is he may have fallen or slipped from the viaduct.

Due to the seriousness of his injuries police are urgently wanting to identify the young man to ensure his family are aware.
