Police charge man after large-scale fraud investigation in Eastern Suburbs

A man has been charged after allegedly defrauding a Queens Park school of more than $7.4 million over a 12-year period.

In October 2019, detectives from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command, with assistance from the Australian Taxation Office, commenced an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds by a former employee of the school.

Following extensive inquiries, a 57-year-old man was arrested at Waverley Police Station about 1pm yesterday (Thursday 7 May 2020).

He was subsequently charged with five counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.

Police will allege in court the man redirected 402 transactions from the college into his personal bank accounts between 2004 and 2016, dishonestly obtaining more than $7.4 million as a result.

He was granted strict conditional bail and will appear in Waverley Local Court on Tuesday 7 July 2020.
