Police charge man in fraud investigationin Brisbane

Detectives from the Financial and Cyber Crime Group have charged a 60-year-old New Farm man this morning after he allegedly defrauded his former employer.

In May 2022, detectives commenced an investigation after a Brisbane based security services provider reported money had been transferred from the company account without authority.

Police will allege that in October 2019, the man misappropriated almost $330,000 from the company account into his personal account whilst employed as the financial controller of the business.

As a result of investigations, the man was charged with one count of fraud and served with a Notice to Appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 10.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Kirk Bellotti from the Financial Crimes Unit said investigations of this type are often complex and require specialist financial investigators.

“This investigation highlights the commitment, dedication and skills of the Queensland Police Service to pursue those who use positions of authority and trust to commit serious financial crime.”
