Police charge man over carjacking in Mascot

A man will appear in court today charged over an alleged carjacking in Sydney’s inner south overnight.

About 11.20pm (Thursday 16 June 2022), emergency services were called to the intersection of Gardeners Road and O’Riordan Street, Mascot, following reports of a two-vehicle crash.

Officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command attended and were told a Toyota Corolla sedan and a Ford Everest SUV.

The male driver of the SUV then forced the driver of a different Toyota Corolla sedan out of the vehicle and drove off.

Following inquiries, officers attached to Kings Cross Police Area Command stopped a Toyota Corolla sedan on Macleay Street, Potts Point, about 11.45pm (Thursday 16 June 2022).

A 38-year-old Condell Park man was arrested and taken to Kings Cross Police Station.

The male driver of the Toyota involved in the crash was assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries, but did not require hospital treatment.

The 38-year-old man was charged with assault with intent to take/drive motor vehicle, not give particulars to driver and refuse or fail to submit to breath analysis.

He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Friday 17 June 2022).
