Police Charge Man Over Stabbing In Guyra

A man will face court today over an alleged stabbing in the state’s New England region on the weekend.

Officers attached to New England Police District were called to a home on Sole Street, Guyra, about 1.45pm on Sunday 21 June 2026, with reports of a stabbing.

Police were told a 27-year-old man allegedly stabbed a man in his 30s in the back during an argument at the home, before leaving the scene.

A woman and a child were also in the home at the time of the alleged incident. No further injuries were reported.

The man was taken to Armidale Hospital where he was treated for a laceration to his back; he was later released.

Following inquiries, about 4.45pm yesterday (Monday 22 June 2026), police attended a unit on Canambe Street, Armidale, where they found a 27-year-old man allegedly fleeing the home and making attempts to jump over the fence.

Officers arrested the man – who was allegedly in possession of a hunting knife at the time – despite his alleged attempts to resist arrest.

Several officers suffered minor lacerations during the arrest.

The 27-year-old man was taken to Armidale Police Station where he was charged with,

· Wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm

· Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty

· Assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm

· Carry cutting weapon upon apprehension.

He was refused bail to face Bail Division Court 5 today (Tuesday 23 June 2026).
