Police Lay Charges Over Brawl At Sports Event At Oaks

Six men have been charged over alleged brawl at a sporting event in Sydney’s south west earlier this month.

On Sunday (19 July 2026), police were called to a sports oval in The Oaks, following reports of a brawl at a rugby match.

Officers attached to Camden Police Area Command attended and were told a fight had broken out between spectators and players after the conclusion of the game.

During the brawl, several people were injured; however, only one man – aged 71 – was taken to hospital for further treatment.

Police spoke to several people involved in the incident before the dispersing the group.

Following inquiries, on Tuesday 28 July 2026, police issued Court Attendance Notices to six men – aged 71, 46, 44, 40, 21 and 18 – who were charged with affray.

The older man was also charged with behave in offensive manner in/near public place/school.

The 71-year-old and 46-year-old men are due to appear before Picton Local Court on Thursday 17 September 2026

The four other men are all due to appear at the same court on Thursday 10 September 2026.

Three 17-year-old boys were also dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
