A young man has died following a single vehicle traffic crash in Far North Queensland overnight.
Shortly before 8pm, a Hyundai i30 was travelling along the Kennedy Highway when it left the road while attempting to overtake a truck.
Police and emergency services were called and assisted other motorists who had rendered assistance to the occupants.
The passenger, an 18-year-old man died on scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver, a 20-year-old man was taken to Cairns Hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.
Officers from the Forensic Crash Unit are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
