Prosecutor appointed to Magistrates Court

  • State Prosecutor Heidi Watson appointed to the Magistrates Court
  • Appointment to fill a vacancy created by a Magistrate becoming a Warden
  • Attorney General John Quigley is pleased to announce the appointment of State Prosecutor Heidi Watson as a Magistrate of the Magistrates Court of Western Australia.

    Ms Watson has spent more than 20 years practising in all major jurisdictions across criminal law, civil litigation and liquor licensing.

    She has worked at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions since 2001, representing the State as counsel over serious offences such as grievous bodily harm, drugs charges and fraud matters.

    Ms Watson has variously worked in teams dedicated to trials, sentencing, appeals, Children’s Court and Dangerous Sexual Offenders/High Risk Serious Offenders.

    She was admitted to practise in Western Australia in 2000 after studying law and psychology at the University of Western Australia.

    Her appointment fills a vacancy created by a Magistrate being deployed as a Warden in the Warden’s Court.

    Ms Watson will begin serving as a Magistrate on March 1, 2022.

    As stated by Attorney General John Quigley:

    “I congratulate Heidi Watson on joining the Magistrates Court of Western Australia.

    “Ms Watson has many years of diverse and relevant experience as an advocate, particularly in criminal law.

    “She has managed large caseloads in her time and trained and mentored junior staff.

    “Ms Watson has represented the State in many complex matters and her expertise will be well utilised in the Magistrates Court.”
