Families fleeing violence in the Frankston region will now have the support they deserve with funding announced today from the Andrews Labor Government Pick my Project Initiative.
Minister for Suburban Development Marlene Kairouz today announced $40,000 in funding for the Essentials for Fleeing Families project which will provide comprehensive relief packages to alleviate the financial burden on families fleeing domestic violence to allow them to focus on healing.
Alongside the Essentials for Fleeing Families project, the Labor Government also announced successful projects including the Mobile Shower 4 Homeless project and the Women’s Spirit project which both provide vital assistance to residents in the Southern Metropolitan region.
The Essentials for Fleeing Families project will assist the Mums Supporting Families in Need group provide basic household essentials to support families fleeing circumstantial crisis.
‘Hampers of Hope’ contain items including laundry and pantry staples, personal care items and basic kitchen appliances to help provide goods often too expensive for families fleeing violence. The Mobile Shower 4 Homeless project will provide people experiencing homelessness with a safe and private facility for personal care.
The Women’s Spirit project gave twenty-five women the opportunity to build their physical, emotional and mental resilience through a therapeutic program that developed their goal setting, communication, problem solving, parenting and budgeting skills.
Pick My Project is a $30 million government first participatory budgeting initiative that puts decision making in the hands of Victorians. Those aged 16 and over were encouraged to generate project ideas that make their local community an even better place to live, then vote for their favourites.
Pick My Project has awarded funding to 237 successful project ideas state-wide, with funding allocated between the six metropolitan and nine regional partnership areas. The region received more than $3.64 million in funding through the initiative, after a total of 37,553 votes were cast across the region.
