QCS welcomes new officers at graduation ceremony

The hard work and achievements of the newest cohort of corrections graduates have been recognised at a ceremony held at the Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) Academy.

Today’s ceremony welcomed 16 new custodial correctional officers and 21 community corrections officers to QCS positions across Queensland.

Minister for Corrective Services Mark Ryan said it was wonderful to acknowledge the great work being carried out by dedicated officers throughout Queensland.

“Today’s graduates will be well prepared to begin their careers with QCS,” Mr Ryan said.

“I commend our new graduates for choosing a career dedicated to keeping Queenslanders safe, whether they’re managing prisoners in custody, or preventing reoffending in the community.

“It is because of them that Queensland is, and continues to be, a safe place.”

Four General Purpose Dog Squad Officers, along with their Correctional Service Dogs, and Two Passive Alert Drug Detection (PADD) Officers and their Correctional Service Dogs also graduated at the ceremony today.

Additionally, two Fiji Corrections Service officers and their dogs who had participated in the PADD program were acknowledged for successfully completing the course.

Acting QCS Commissioner James Koulouris congratulated the graduates for their hard work and commitment to keeping Queensland safe.

“Our highly skilled officers, including today’s graduates, undertake stringent training to ensure they are prepared to take on the challenges of working in a correctional environment every day,” he said.

“Today’s graduates come from a multitude of backgrounds, from school teacher to brick layer, but all follow a fine tradition to join the QCS ranks and boost safety across Queensland.

“It is an incredibly exciting time to be joining the QCS as we all work together to make the community safe through our five guiding principles of Corrections 2030: safety, excellence, empowerment, accountability and respect.”

The Palaszczuk Government is currently recruiting hundreds of Queenslanders for jobs in QCS this financial year.
