While the doors have temporarily closed, the hearts of the Grovedale Neighbourhood House team have remained open during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The City of Greater Geelong recognises Neighbourhood House Week, which is a nationwide celebration of the role these centres play in the community year-round.
Grovedale Neighbourhood House has continued to provide support from a distance.
The centre has turned its focus to online platforms to stay connected with its community.
City employee Linda Connor, who manages Grovedale Neighbourhood House, leads weekly online “cuppas”.
These popular virtual catch-ups allow residents to see a familiar face and will continue until the doors re-open, following the advice of government authorities.
Neighbourhood House Week is on from 8-15 May 2020.

Like all community centres, the Grovedale Neighbourhood House brings local residents from all walks of life together and provides support and engagement.
We have missed that face-to-face interaction, but we have worked hard to keep a connection and provide information and resources where we can.
I would like to thank the Grovedale community for embracing the neighbourhood house and we look forward to getting back to normal operation when restrictions ease.

There are many people just like Linda, who have adapted to change and made a real effort to stay connected with residents. We can’t underestimate the importance of social interaction during times of isolation.
We are always proud of the role Grovedale Neighbourhood House plays in the community, and this is yet another way they have stepped up in a time of need.
