Refreshed outdoor gym opens in Manly

Northern Beaches

Northern Beaches exercise enthusiasts have another dedicated expanded and much-improved space to boost their fitness with the opening this weekend of the renovated outdoor gym at Lagoon Park, Manly.

Located at the western end of Lagoon Park, the new open-air gym boasts seven exercise stations suitable for all ages, levels of fitness and even those who are less mobile.

With a mixture of weight-bearing, strength and cardio equipment, the Lagoon Park fitness area brings the number of outdoor gyms to nine for the Northern Beaches LGA.

An added feature of the Lagoon Park gym is that each exercise station comes with a QR code that links users to instructional videos from trained fitness professionals.

The gym area is fully funded by Council with the $100,000 installation being part of the Lagoon Park Landscape Plan implementation. Other projects being undertaken in support of this Plan include the recently completed seawall at the eastern end of the park and the upgrade to the picnic area currently underway.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said outdoor gyms are more in demand and are a popular free option to commercial gyms.

“The revamped gym at Lagoon Park will give you a complete workout, while enjoying the fresh air and magnificent outdoor setting,” Cr Regan said.

“Council designs its outdoor gyms to be multi-generational, inclusive and to cater for a wide range of fitness levels, abilities, body shapes and sizes.

“I am pleased that this exercise area will provide another opportunity for the community to improve their health and fitness.”

Council is presently installing a new outdoor gym at Newport Beach and new gyms are planned for Forestville War Memorial Playing Fields, Lionel Watts Reserve, Frenchs Forest and Tania Park, Balgowlah Heights over the coming years.

All Council exercise equipment comes with detailed instructions on each piece of equipment so it can be used safely and effectively.

Prior to installing the gym, Council consulted with the community to inform the design of the equipment. Final designs were also assessed against an industry best practice guide.
