Repositioning Darwin’s Rail Terminal Study

To create a $40 billion economy by 2030 the Territory Labor Government is revamping the way our services operate.
A feasibility study identifying alternate locations for the Darwin Passenger railway terminal forms part of this work, with the potential to reposition the passenger railway terminal to a more urban and accessible location, in line with its tourism centric operations.
Engineering Consultancy firm Aurecon has been engaged to deliver the feasibility study, and over the next six months, will investigate a strategic location for the railway, advising on the most suitable location for a passenger terminal that complements the existing use of the current strategically important rail corridor.
With the location of the existing passenger terminal better suited to logistics and heavy industrial use, the study will investigate a more appropriate location for the terminal in the medium to long term. The study will include investigating how the new terminal can benefit all types of businesses, incorporating retail, restaurants, warehousing and distribution centres.
Connecting our Territory will bring more economic opportunities and further cement us as Australia’s comeback capital. The study will also consider how the terminal will integrate with the Palmerston to Darwin transit system.
