Residents urged to remain calm and be kind

Griffith City Council is asking residents calling the customer service department or dealing with outdoor crews regarding the current flood event to practice kindness.

Council’s Customer Service Officers are fielding more than 200 calls per day and while they understand emotions are high and people are stressed, abusive calls will not be tolerated.

Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran is urging the community to show kindness.

“We certainly understand that it is a stressful time, but it’s never okay to be abusive. We just ask that callers be patient and polite,” Councillor Curran said.

“Our staff are doing their very best to address concerns by providing most up to date information and submitting Customer Requests in Council’s systems.(CRMs).”

“I’d just like each person calling Council to consider that our staff are receiving hundreds of calls and do their best to be helpful, but with limited resources requests are triaged accordingly. This may mean road and water crews won’t be available immediately to respond to your concern.

“Outdoor crews have worked through the night this week to ensure safety of residents and often feel helpless they cannot cover all calls at the same time.”

Mayor Curran said residents can be assured that each request is being recorded and actioned as soon as possible.

“Customer requests will be used for future reference so that processes can be improved,” he said.

Thank you to those callers who have shown respect and common courtesy, your patience is appreciated.
