Robinvale community members will be able to hear results of the area’s much anticipated population study and housing strategy firsthand on Tuesday, 13 August.
Swan Hill Rural City Council engaged expert demographers from Geographia to analyse data and find a more accurate population figure for the Robinvale area. They used things like EFTPOS and water use data, and interviewed local people.
At the same time, consultants from Holmes Dyer have been working with industry, services providers and government agencies on a strategy that will offer short and long term plans to improve housing availability.
On Tuesday, Councillors will be briefed on the outcomes of both projects. A public information session will follow at 6pm at the Robinvale Community Centre. Copies of the studies will be available and the consultants will present findings to the community.
Mayor Ann Young encouraged community members to attend.
“These studies were commissioned to help us tackle some of the biggest challenges facing Robinvale,” she said.
“We know the Census result of 3,373 residents does not reflect the actual number of people living in the Robinvale area, and this makes it hard to seek the right levels of Government investment for things like health, education and emergency services.
“We also know that there is a lack of quality housing in the Robinvale area – for itinerant workers and for the professionals coming to live and work in the area,” she said.
“The results of these studies will help us advocate for improvements in and around Robinvale to overcome these key challenges. So please, come along and be part of it.”
The studies were funded by State Government, Mallee Regional Partnership and Council.
