From Sunday 26 July 2026, Public Transport Victoria is running more Route 511 bus services, for longer hours, reaching more of Mandalay Estate for the first time.
What’s changing?
Public Transport Victoria (PTV) is expanding Route 511, which connects Beveridge and Mandalay to Craigieburn Station.
The changes include:
- 322 new weekly trips
- Buses roughly every 40 minutes, all week
- Longer operating hours:
- Weekdays: 5.30am-10.40pm
- Saturdays: 6.55am-10.40pm
- Sundays: 7.35am-9.30pm
- Full coverage of Mandalay Circuit, giving residents in the north of Mandalay Estate a bus service for the first time
- All services wheelchair accessible
Mitchell Shire Mayor Cr John Dougall said the new service was excellent news for a community that had waited too long for reliable public transport.
“This is a significant improvement for Beveridge and a very welcome response to the needs of Victoria’s fastest-growing community,” Cr Dougall said.
“A more frequent service to Craigieburn Station will give Beveridge residents better access to trains, employment, education and essential services. It will make a real difference for young people, older residents, families and anyone who doesn’t have reliable access to a car.”
What about the Mandalay Circuit loop?
Buses travelling from Craigieburn Station will loop around Mandalay Circuit anticlockwise. The destination display will switch to “Craigieburn Station” before the bus enters the loop, so passengers know it’s continuing on to the station.
Passengers on Mandalay Circuit heading to Craigieburn Station can board while the bus completes the loop – it will wait 1 to 5 minutes at Mantel Green/Lithgow Street before continuing.
What’s next?
Route 511 is expected to be extended to the eastern part of Beveridge once roadworks are completed in 2027.
Why does it matter?
Beveridge is one of Victoria’s fastest-growing communities, and Council has long advocated to the Victorian Government for better, more frequent public transport connections across the area.
Cr Dougall said the improvements to Route 511 were an important step, but that a train station for Beveridge remained a Council priority.
“We warmly welcome this expanded service and thank the Victorian Government for investing in better public transport for Beveridge,” Cr Dougall said.
“This is a major improvement, but Beveridge is growing rapidly and buses alone won’t meet the community’s long-term transport needs. Beveridge Station remains one of Council’s highest advocacy priorities.
“A train station would give this growing community direct access to the rail network, reduce pressure on the Hume Freeway and better connect residents with jobs, education and services across Melbourne’s north.
“These changes to Route 511 show what can be achieved when growing communities receive the public transport investment they need. We’ll continue working with the Victorian Government to build on this progress and secure a commitment to deliver Beveridge Station.”
