A total of 15,276 students are today celebrating after completing their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) – the highest number of SACE completers in nine years.
This year has also seen a record 2815 students complete a VET Certificate III as part of their SACE – compared with 2488 in 2018.
1151 merit certificates were awarded to 892 students across the state.
Other notable achievements from the Class of 2019 include:
- 5% of students who started their Personal Learning Plan (PLP) in 2017 completed their SACE over a three-year period (compared with 78.2% of SACE completers last year)
- 3976 students in regional South Australia completed their SACE
- 4% of SACE completers included VET in their studies
- 393 Aboriginal students completed their SACE
- A record number of students with an intellectual disability completed their SACE (with one or more modified subjects) – 296 this year compared with 239 in 2018.
Education Minister John Gardner has congratulated the Class of 2019 on their achievements.
“It is fantastic that this year has seen the highest number of SACE completers in nine years, and I congratulate each and every one of the 15,276 students who have achieved their certificate in 2019,” said Minister Gardner.
“I am encouraged by the record numbers of students that have included VET as part of their SACE this year, and our VET for School Students policy will continue to ensure that VET qualifications are further aligned with industry needs and are ensuring job outcomes for our young people.
“All students who completed their SACE should be proud of their achievements. They have worked incredibly hard over many years to achieve a world-class qualification that sets them up for future success in South Australia and across the world.”
Professor Martin Westwell, Chief Executive of the SACE Board, said he was delighted with the nine year high of SACE completers.
“It’s pleasing that more students have demonstrated their skills, knowledge and capabilities and have received the education that they are entitled to,” Prof Westwell said.
“Students who achieve their SACE show real perseverance and resilience and they have set themselves up for future success.
“I’d also like to commend every teacher who has guided students through their learning journey, and to parents for supporting their children through their senior secondary education.”
Results are available online from 8.30 am at sace.sa.edu.au, and students are scheduled to receive hard copies of their results in the post over the coming days.
