Security Council Considers Situation in South Sudan ahead of December Elections

The Security Council met today to consider the Secretary-General’s report (document S/2024/572), and was briefed by Nicholas Haysom, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS); Edem Wosornu, Director of Operations and Advocacy, Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs; and Major General (rtd) Charles Tai Gituai, Interim Chairperson, Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission.
