Power up, shake off 2020 and nominate to swim, cycle and run at the annual Isaac Regional Council Australia Day Triathlon in Moranbah.

The highly anticipated sporting event, staged at the Greg Cruickshank Aquatic Centre annually on 26 January, is a must do on the community’s calendar.

Mayor Anne Baker said many of our local and visiting triathlon competitors look to this event to energise their health and fitness for the year.

“We welcome entries from people across the Isaac region and beyond to come and join in this great Australia Day tradition and what a great way to shake off 2020,” she said.

“Sport is a huge part of our culture and being part of the Australia Day Triathlon as either a competitor or spectator is an active way to celebrate our great Aussie spirit and nation. People of all fitness levels, ages and experience are welcome to nominate.

“Events like this help our communities to thrive as we help to energise the world. They require months of planning and preparation especially in a COVID safe world and a great deal of people power to bring it to life.

“We’re very grateful to the Moranbah Highlanders, Moranbah Crossfit, Moranbah Bulldogs and Moranbah Box n Sport for their assistance in running this event.”

The adult’s triathlon consists of an 800m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run and for the juniors under 16 years, the course will cover a 400m swim, 5km cycle and 1.5km run.

Individual or team registrations are welcome. Competitors can nominate via Speak Up Isaac – https://speakup.isaac.qld.gov.au for the 26 January event. The first 100 that nominate will receive a free Moranbah Triathlon singlet.

Following the completion of the triathlon, there’ll be a free barbecue breakfast and a presentation of winners.

The Moranbah Triathlon is operating under an approved COVID Safe plan. Participants and volunteers are asked to stay home if they’re unwell, maintain social distancing and wash hands regularly.

This Isaac Regional Council event is assisted by the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council.
