Statement – NT Police Executive Management Update

TheMinister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services Nicole Manison has todayannounced that advertising for the new Commissioner of Police, Fire andEmergency Services has commenced.

Theposition became vacant after former Commissioner Reece Kershaw took up the roleof Commissioner for the Australian Federal Police in July this year.

Advertisingwill run for three weeks with the appointment of a new commissioner expectedover the coming months.

TheMinister today also announced the upcoming retirement of Deputy PoliceCommissioner Grant Nicholls later this year.

MrNicholls began his career as a police officer in New Zealand in 1985 where heworked in criminal investigations, general duties and urban and remotepolicing, before being recruited to the NT Police in June 2016 to oversee theNTPFES Capability Audit.

Hewas subsequently appointed to Deputy Commissioner in December 2016.

Duringhis time in the NT Police he was instrumental in the setup and operation of theTerritory Intelligence and Coordination Centre (TICC), now a vital resourceacross government that provides a critical, strategic intelligence capability.

Hemade a significant contribution to the modernisation of the NT Police digitalcapability which included the radio network, mobile devices, body-worn videoand facial recognition technology. He also completely reformed the DogOperations Unit which now provides world-class training in-house.

MrNicholls initially plans to spend time with his family and travelling.

Wethank Mr Nicholls for his tireless work within the NT Police and wish him allthe best in this next chapter of life.

Advertisingfor the deputy role will also commence today.
