Station Street pavement works begin

Wingecarribee Shire

Improvement works on Station Street are set to move aboveground following the Council Meeting where it was resolved to award the surface pavement rehabilitation contract to Nace Civil Engineering Pty Ltd.

Council accepted the $2.44 million tender that will involve digging up the old road pavement, preparing a new sub-base and laying fresh asphalt for 360 metres between Boolwey and Bong Bong Streets.

The contractor will also remove old underground pipework and where necessary, replace and renew the kerb and guttering.

Council’s Director Service and Project Delivery Karin Targa said the announcement of the tender was the latest development in the multi-million-dollar upgrade of the busy Bowral thoroughfare.

“The awarding of this contract is the latest milestone in the long-awaited upgrade of Station Street and coincides with this week’s installation of a new watermain,” she said.

“Within a few weeks Council will have completely removed and replaced the 50-year-old below-ground watermain in preparation for the surface works to begin.”

Ms Targa said weather permitting the road rehabilitation works were expected to begin in late October 2022.

“Once complete motorists can look forward to a smooth and uniform road surface,” she said.

Onsite stormwater drainage and carpark improvement works at the southern end of Station Street also continue to be undertaken. Both carpark and drainage improvement works at the southern entrance to Station Street are scheduled to be complete by late September. On completion this carpark will provide an additional 150 car spaces.

Meanwhile, the design for the Railway Station carpark at the northern end of Station Street is currently being reviewed by Transport for NSW (TfNSW). A decision on the construction of this carpark by TfNSW is expected in September 2022.

Further works yet to be scheduled include paving and stone works, tree pruning and preservation of the heritage camelia garden within the Bowral Train Station area.

Ms Targa said all efforts would be made to minimise disruption.

“Where possible we have been undertaking the improvement works after hours to minimise disruption to nearby businesses and motorists,” she said.

“We thank all of the road’s users for their continued patience as we get on with the job of upgrading Station Street.”
