Strangulation and assault offences in Kallangur, QLD

Police have charged a man with seven offences including strangulation, assault occasioning bodily harm and serious assault police after officers responded to a triple zero (000) call at a Kallangur home last night (Friday, March 29).

Police attended the home around 10.05pm where they located a woman in her 20s with facial injuries following an alleged serious assault which included her being choked and suffocated.

Following a struggle police arrested a 38-year-old Closeburn man inside the house and placed him the rear of a police vehicle.

It will be alleged a short time later as a police officer opened the car door the man assaulted him several times by punching him about the head, knocking him to the ground, before then fleeing on foot.

Other police chased the man and took him into custody nearby.

Both the woman and the police officer received medical treatment. The woman for contusions and bruising to her face and body, and the police officer for facial bruising and a split lip.

The man has been denied police bail and is due to appear in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on Monday, April 1 charged with one count each of strangulation (DV offence), wilful damage (DV offence), serious assault police, obstruct police and escape lawful custody. He has also been charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm – (DV offence) and assault relating to the police officer.
