Take Look Inside QCS officer profile 18 November

Samantha, Senior Case Manager, Mt Gravatt Community Corrections

As a Senior Case Manager in Brisbane Region, Samantha specialises in helping offenders get their lives back on track through education, support and modelling pro-social behaviour.

“My role focuses predominantly on offenders in the community, many of whom suffer from significant complexities ranging from mental health, substance abuse, trauma or domestic and family violence victimisation,” Samantha said.

Samantha is part of a team of community corrections officers who work with high risk offenders in the community.

She is responsible for managing and responding to emerging and presenting risk in the interest of community safety.

“I proactively work with offenders to address their risk areas, facilitate referral pathways and support them to reintegrate back into the community and reduce their risk of reoffending.

Samantha’s career in community corrections started in Charleville as a Probation Services Officer servicing the remote areas of Cunnamulla, Quilpie and Thargomindah. She also worked in Bundaberg before moving back to Brisbane.

“I am grateful to Queensland Corrective Services for the opportunity to relocate on a few occasions which has given me a greater perspective of the role and working in different regions.

Samantha joined the public sector four years ago as she wanted to work with an organisation that drives ambition and innovation, while making a positive impact on the lives of people she works with in the community.

“I have worked in multiple roles within community corrections including probation services, senior case management, high risk team-senior case manager and supervising teams.

“Working with complex offenders in city, rural and remote locations has taught me to be innovative and think outside the box.

“I approach this by implementing individual based management plans to best support offenders in achieving their goals and addressing their criminogenic needs, while working within the scope of my role and available resources.

“I am also passionate about addressing the ongoing risk of domestic and family violence and work proactively with perpetrators to educate them in long term behavioural change and accountability.

“I ensure victims are supported and their voices are heard, while promoting community awareness and safety.

“QCS offers a great work life balance and if you are looking for a role where your skills can help support people in the community and a make a positive difference to their lives, a career in corrections will offer you a challenging, yet rewarding role,” Samantha said.

When Samantha isn’t at work, she loves exploring the great outdoors with her two Labradors.
