The Andrews Labor Government is delivering on its promise to get more trucks off busy local roads Victorians rely on every day, as part of a massive Suburban Transport Blitz.
Over the past four years, the Labor Government has been rebuilding Victoria’s suburban road and rail network and as our suburbs grow.
From upgrading the roundabout at the end of the street, to building our state’s biggest transport projects, this Budget will get locals where they need to go.
The Victorian Budget 2019/2020 delivers $4 million to extend funding for the Mode Shift Incentive Scheme (MSIS) for a further twelve months, ensuring that industry can continue to shift more freight from road to rail.
This is part of the Government’s $8 million investment to take more trucks off local roads and onto rail and to help Victoria’s truck drivers to be safer and more skilled on our roads.
Extending the MSIS will increase efficiency and cost effectiveness in the freight sector and reduce congestion on roads in and around freight and port precincts.
Along with the Port Rail Shuttle Network, these initiatives are helping better use our rail freight facilities and gives more companies incentives to shift from road to rail.
Victoria’s gross state product is expected to increase by $40 billion by 2040.
The Budget supports the state’s biggest ever investment in transport and continues the massive overhaul of Victoria’s transport and freight networks, saving time and reducing congestion.
