Targeted Monkeypox Vaccination Program to Commence in NSW

ACON

A targeted vaccination program against monkeypox – also known as MPXV – focussing on high-risk groups will commence in NSW on Monday 8 August. The vaccine rollout is being led by NSW Health with ACON providing support.

There is significant global demand for this vaccine. NSW has received a limited supply from the Commonwealth Government. Because of this initially limited supply, vaccines will be offered in a phased approach with priority given to those most at risk.

In the first phase, NSW Health will have 5,500 doses available. A further 30,000 doses are expected at the end of September and 70,000 doses in early 2023.

The vaccine that will be offered to community members is the JYNNEOS smallpox vaccine, which is the latest vaccine available to provide protection against MPXV.

People at highest risk for MPXV are gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men. Over the coming days NSW Health will release
