Three charged following a pursuit in stolen car – Operational Regional Mongoose

Three teens have been charged following a pursuit in the state’s northeast.

Operation Regional Mongoose is a high-visibility police operation to tackle serious property-related crime committed predominately by young offenders.

Just after 11pm yesterday (Thursday 21 March 2024), police were patrolling Tamworth when they attempted to stop a Holden Commodore on Robert Street, Tamworth.

When it failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated. It was later terminated due to safety concerns.

The Holden was located abandoned a short time later on George Street, Tamworth, and three teens were arrested in the area.

They were all taken to Tamworth Police Station.

Inquiries revealed the Holden was reported stolen overnight from a home on Vera Street, Tamworth.

A 13-year-old boy was charged with drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, participate criminal group contribute criminal activity, and breach of bail.

Another 13-year-old boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, participate criminal group contribute criminal activity, and breach of bail.

A 14-year-old boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

Two boys – aged 14 and 13 – were refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Friday 22 March 2023).

The other boy was given conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Tuesday 2 April 2024.
