Tiger Brennan Drive Duplication Almost Complete

Works toupgrade Tiger Brennan Drive from Dinah Beach Road through to McMinn Street arealmost complete, with the road expected to open in a weeks time.

Ministerfor Population, Cities and Urban Infrastructure Alan Tudge said the newduplication unlocked the potential of Darwin city.

This is alandmark project which has supported many local jobs, Mr Tudge said.

In a weekstime Territorians will be able to use this road, along with GarramillaBoulevard creating an attractive entry way into the Darwin CBD.

TheNorthern Territory Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics, EvaLawler said since the opening of Garramilla Boulevard, travelling to and fromDarwin City had become a lot easier.

Oncethe duplication of Tiger Brennan Drive is complete, it will ease trafficcongestion further for commuters travelling to Darwins CBD and help dispersetraffic more equally, Ms Lawler said.

Ithank Territoria Civil and all the local subcontractors that have worked onthis project to ensure it was completed nine months ahead of schedule supportingmore than 540 local jobs.

“Thestreetscaping along this section of Tiger Brennan Drive complements thestonemasonry along Garramilla Boulevard, with reinforced walls to support theduplication showcasing stunning patterns depicting the nearby tidal mangrovesof Sandgrove Creek all designed in the Territory and installed by Territorycontractors.

Senatorfor the Northern Territory Dr Sam McMahon said Garramilla Boulevard wouldshowcase Darwins tropical appeal to tourists and investors.

TheAustralian Government has committed $29.5 million to the Garramilla Boulevardand Tiger Brennan Drive Stage 3 project, Senator McMahon said.

Thisfantastic project will clear congestion, helping Darwin Territorians andvisitors get to their destinations sooner and safer.

LordMayor Kon Vatskalis said the City of Darwin was proud to be a part of the TigerBrennan Drive Duplication project.

Theproject has provided a unique opportunity for all levels of government to worktogether and we are delighted that it has been completed and delivered to thecommunity, Lord Mayor Vatskalis said.

“Thismajor road provides an attractive and important additional access route intoour city that will improve access and attract more people to the city centre.

Landscapingworks will continue to progress along both Garramilla Boulevard and TigerBrennan Drive, over the coming months.

To celebratethe opening of Garramilla Boulevard and Tiger Brennan Drive, a family open daywill be held at Frog Hollow Park near the new amphitheatre on Saturday 12October 2019.

TheAustralian Government committed $29.5 million to the Garramilla Boulevard andTiger Brennan Drive Stage 3 project, with the Northern Territory Governmentinvesting $25 million and the City of Darwin a further $5 million.
