Labor welcomes the government opening public consultation on the secondary education program delivered at the Hobart City Partner Schools but it will be an incomplete process if a key study remains secret.
Shadow Education Minister Josh Willie said the government is remaining secretive about the outcome of the feasibility study into a new co-educational public high school in Hobart.
“The government is not being transparent – it spent $300,000 of taxpayer funds on a feasibility study completed last year, and continues to refuse to release the report in full.
“The consultation process is seeking to understand the level of community support for increasing co-educational opportunities between Ogilvie and New Town high schools.
“For parents to accurately and productively contribute to the consultation process, they need to be fully informed about the feasibility of other educational options in the city.
“Parents have the right to know the full background before helping determine the educational future of their children.
“If the government wants a genuine consultation process, they must release the full results of the feasibility study.”
