Bric-a-brac, antiques, handmade crafts and bespoke artisans will feature as part of the next Makers and Collectors Market to be held in the Central Goldfields Shire this month.

The Makers and Collectors Market, to be held across the Shire on Sunday 12 June between 11am and 4pm – encourages visitors to use an online map – www.makerscollectors.com.au – to plan their journey.

The ‘deconstructed’ market trail – invites residents and visitors to explore Dunolly, Carisbrook, Talbot and Maryborough and the undiscovered gems these townships have to offer.

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Chris Meddows-Taylor said the initiative was about showcasing and sharing the best of what our townships have to offer.

“Made possible with funding from the Victorian Government’s COVIDsafe Outdoor Activation Fund, the Makers and Collectors Market is a unique way of driving visitation to our townships to support our business community.

“Participating businesses have been provided with striking, blue display units to attract interest so that people are enticed to stop and shop.

“It’s an opportunity for visitors to find something special, learn more about local artisans living in our townships and at the same time uncover the stories, energy and spirit or our local communities.”

Talbot based business ‘Playing the Attic’ owner Trudy McLauchlan said the Makers and Collectors Market is a wonderful opportunity to showcase what our towns have to offer, in the way of eclectic, vintage, art and craft shops.

“The eye-catching blue carts and signage alert people to where these businesses are, and people can hop from one to the next. It’s so important to get people moving through the Central Goldfields and stopping at places of interest along the way.

“I’m new to Talbot, and my shop is only three months old, so I’m more than happy to be a part of this initiative to encourage people to my shop.

“Playing in the Attic is a curious extraordinarium of all wondrous things, sourced locally and globally, to encourage creativity and play.”

The Makers and Collectors Market will be held on Sunday 12 June and more businesses are being added to the online map every week.

The next Market will be held on Sunday 10 July.

Makers & Collectors Market is a Central Goldfields Shire Council initiative made possible with funding from the Victorian State Government as a part of the COVIDsafe Outdoor Activation Fund.
