US trade and investment mission postponed

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Trade

Due to the current COVID-19 situation unfolding around the world, and based on the latest advice, the planned Trade and Investment Mission to the United States has been postponed.

A delegation of Tasmanian businesses and industry leaders was set to travel to the United States later this month, as announced by the Premier on March 3.

Like Australia, the US has also put restrictions in place, which has had flow on effects to the proposed itinerary, such as the cancellation of major events including Sea Air Space and 36th Space Symposium.

There was very strong interest, across multiple sectors, to participate in the Trade Mission and we shall reschedule the mission to later in 2020 when international travel is deemed appropriate and when the economic benefits to businesses can be realised.

We understand that there will be impacts to Tasmanian businesses as a consequence of the coronavirus pandemic but the Government remains committed to supporting Tasmanian businesses and industries to identify future opportunities to promote Tasmanian trade.
