Western Region Youth Forum great success

The Western Region Youth Forum came together earlier this week on 29 of August to present and discuss important youth issues in the west.

Young Leaders from six western region councils including Wyndham, Moonee Valley, Melton, Maribyrnong, Hobsons Bay and Brimbank presented at the forum on issues they are passionate about and ideas and ways to move forward and make change.

Mayors from the six Local Government Area’s came along with Katie Hall MP, Member for Footscray, Parliament Secretary for Youth and Dr Matthew Bach MP, Shadow Minister for Youth.

Wyndham City Mayor Cr Peter Maynard said: “A strong message that came through in the presentations was the concern young people have for youth mental health. Particularly the significant waiting time young people have in accessing mental health support and services.”

“Other issues raised included climate change, discrimination and barriers to access sport.”

“The three young leaders from Wyndham Aakriti Malhotra, Raidah Parvez and Crystal Jacob did an amazing job representing Wyndham with their passionate, interesting and thoughtful presentations.”

“The Western Region Youth Forum was a great opportunity for young people to come together and share their thoughts, concerns, ideas and hopes for the future.”

“Some of the recommendations included improving mental health services in the West to support young people especially as we emerge post pandemic.”
