Wild dog relief in West

NSW Farmers has secured funding from the NSW Government to continue the vital Western Division Wild Dog Coordinator position, with Bruce Duncan reappointed to the Dubbo-based role.

NSW Farmers’ thanks Minister Adam Marshall for supporting the continuation of the project. The coordinator was previously funded by Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), but budgetary constraints halted the program at the end of 2019.

NSW Farmers President James Jackson said news of the resumption of the coordinator position will come as a relief for farmers in Western NSW.

“Our Western Division farmers are continuing to battling harsh drought conditions and this is coupled with the wild dog problem that is resulting in stock losses and environmental destruction,” Mr Jackson said.

“This role is critical in supporting farmers to undertake coordinated and effective wild dog control.”

“The position has enabled producers to collaborate to reduce the devastating impact of wild dogs, delivering positive outcomes in terms of on-farm productivity, rural community well-being and biodiversity.”

“Supporting the coordinator role compliments the Government’s $37.5 million investment in extending the border dog-fence. We applaud the Government’s coordinated and strategic approach to wild-dog management.

Mr Jackson said reappointing Bruce Duncan to the role ensures that there is continuity in this critical initiative.

“He has a proven track-record in the role. He brings a wealth of experience to the position and has a history of delivering results for producers in wild dog control.”
