Woman and child hit by car; man charged high range drink-driving in Girraween

A man has been charged with high range drink-driving after a woman and child were hit by a car in in Sydney’s north-west.

About 3.10pm yesterday (Friday 14 June 2019), emergency services were called to Gilba Road and Tungarra Road, Girraween, following reports a child and woman were struck by a black Mercedes C250 sedan while standing on the footpath.

Police have been told the vehicle continued during a school zone and struck two parked cars a blue Holden Cruze sedan and a white Toyota Corolla sedan, before it crashed through a fence, coming to a stop in a backyard.

The 9-year-old girl and a 37-year-old woman were treated at the scene before being taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command attended and subjected the male driver to a breath test, which returned a positive result.

He was arrested and taken to Granville Police Station, where he was subjected to a breath analysis which returned a positive reading of 0.164.

The 39-year-old Wentworthville man was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for the offence high range PCA.

He is due to appear at Fairfield Local Court on Tuesday 20 August 2019.

His driver’s licence was also suspended.
