Works set to begin to restore Mordialloc’s Masonic Hall for new youth services space
Works are set to begin on a $2 million restoration of the former Mordialloc Masonic Hall to create a new home for Kingston Youth Services.
Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley said the heritage building, which has been empty for many years, will undergo major works to repair and restore it for community use.
“The former Masonic Hall is in a fantastic location in the centre of Kingston and on the trainline to make it more accessible for young people right across our community,” Cr Oxley said.
“Local young people will able to access important information, support and services to help them navigate study, work, health issues and more.”
The refurbishment works will include:
- Adding a lift and ramps to provide disability access throughout the building
- New kitchen
- Creating new office and support service spaces
- Car park works.
Kingston Youth Services currently operate from Southland, with annual rental costs of $90,000.
Council has appointed builders Bowden Corporation to conduct the specialist heritage works, with construction works expected to begin later this year.
