Melbourne Polytechnic has unveiled the first look at a revitalised Collingwood TAFE campus, as works get under way to transform the site into a world-class education, industry and community precinct, made possible by a $40 million Andrews Labor Government investment.
Minister for Training and Skills and Higher Education Gayle Tierney today revealed the first artist’s impressions of the project and announced the start of works of the campus, which will be built by West Melbourne-based Building Engineering Pty Ltd.
The Labor Government deeply values TAFE and has invested a record $3.2 billion since being elected in 2014 to create a world-class system – also reopening campuses at Greensborough, Lilydale and Glenormiston closed at the hands of Matthew Guy’s Liberals.
Under the project plan – designed by Tectura Architects – the existing multi-storey building will be redeveloped to include state-of-the-art teaching and learning spaces, contemporary collaboration and library spaces, front-of-house services and student services.
The redevelopment of this iconic site will allow Melbourne Polytechnic to revitalise the delivery of TAFE services in Melbourne’s inner north while fostering strong connections with industry and the local community.
The campus will offer courses in growth areas including information technology, business, creative arts and English as an Additional Language, as well as Free TAFE courses in areas such as community services and cyber security.
Building work is expected to finish in late 2023, with the revitalised campus re-opening to students in early 2024. It is anticipated the construction work will create 33 jobs.
