Young change-makers in the City of Logan are being invited to help make a positive difference by joining the Logan Youth Action Group (LYAG).
The Logan City Council initiative provides a platform, and a voice, for young people who are passionate about their city.
Marsden State High School student Fatemeh Faili encourages all interested young people to apply.
A member for the past year, Kurdish refugee Fatemeh, said LYAG has helped expand her community connections.
“It is about making a change in Logan,” she said.
“Networking is an important way to expand your social connections and create new opportunities for one to pursue.”
Fatemeh said through LYAG she would highlight the opportunities available in Logan.
She has her future sights set on studying medicine, where she hopes to one day specialise in neurosurgery.
However her current refugee status leaves her unable to access financial support for university, such as scholarships.
Fatemeh said her role with LYAG was helping her to make connections and open doors which left her hopeful for the future.
She took her passion for education last year and used it with her fellow members to improve information platforms for students.
This year she hopes to join LYAG’s environmental team and expand the online resources which the members have been developing.
City Lifestyle Chair, Councillor Laurie Koranski said LYAG played an active role in ensuring the voices of young people were heard.
“These bright young people work hard throughout the year to turn ideas they have into exciting community projects in areas like education and employment, mental health, community safety and environmental sustainability,” Cr Koranski said.
“I commend them on what they have developed and I look forward to seeing other great ideas in 2023.
“I encourage anyone who is interested to apply to be part of LYAG as this is your opportunity to inspire and drive change by leading community projects.
“You will be able to gain experience for your resume, meet with like-minded youth, develop leadership skills and build valuable connections and community networks.”
LYAG is open to young people aged 14 to 24 years old who live, work or study in the City of Logan and are passionate about making a positive difference in the local community.
Applications close on February 19.
