Australian support for livestock disease control in Indonesia

The Hon Julie Collins MP
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry

The Albanese Labor Government is investing up to $1 million to assist Indonesia’s ongoing response to an outbreak of lumpy skin disease in livestock in Bali.

Further vaccines and additional technical assistance will be provided to the Indonesian Government to help protect the country’s livestock industries, and to help prevent an incursion of the disease in Australia.

While Australia remains free from lumpy skin disease, and it is not a human health risk, the presence of the disease in the region remains a threat to the livestock industries of Australia and our neighbours.

Since 2022, the Australian Government has provided over 1.4 million doses of lumpy skin disease vaccine to Indonesia.

Over this period, the Australian Government has also invested over $4 million through the CSIRO Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness to deliver capacity building support for Indonesian Government laboratories and surveillance and training for animal diseases in our region.

This is part of the Australian Government’s ongoing commitment to deliver improved national preparedness for lumpy skin disease under the National Lumpy Skin Disease Action Plan.

The Albanese Labor Government has delivered more than $2 billion in additional biosecurity resourcing to strengthen our world-leading biosecurity system.

Delivery support will be provided to the Indonesian Government by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and technical support by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Julie Collins MP:
