‘Bad’ internet’ not an option for Deanna

Women in rural and regional Australia have to wear many hats
and reliable connectivity makes it a whole lot easier says farmer and
communications business owner, Deanna Lush

Deanna and her husband run 4000-hectare mixed farming enterprise
on South Australia’s Murray Plains. Deanna is also the co-founder and managing
director of AgCommunicators, a company specialising in communication,
marketing, events and education for rural and regional Australia.

On top of all that Deanna is the recipient of the 2019 SA AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award, recipient of the Churchill Fellowship and a graduate from the 2018 Diversity in Agriculture Leadership Program.

To curate and maintain such an impressive resume Deana needs
to be connected to people around Australia and the world. Deanna says trusted
internet connection has made a significant impact on her professional life
living in rural Australia.

“As a journalist, editor and communicator specialising in primary
production, natural resources and agripolitics, the need for rural connection
is a major priority,” Deanna said.

Deanna’s property is located only 5kms from the nearest nbn
tower but due to the farm being situated within a valley, she relies heavily on
the nbn’s satellite solution Sky Muster.

A modern farm requires good internet coverage and having bad connection isn’t an option.

“Any planning that I do for my business and farm relies on a
high-speed, consistent connection.

“Having access to Sky Muster has been integral to helping my
business grow.

“Being located in a valley, without Sky Muster, I would not
be able to successfully run my business from home.

“The service gives me connectivity to not only keep up with AgCommunicators but it also provides the farm the ability to use fast-paced online programs to track cropping and livestock.”

Deanna used the Sky Muster service throughout her time in
the 2018 Diversity
in Ag Leadership Program
, a mentoring program led by the National
Farmers’ Federation designed to assist rural women to realise their leadership
aspirations.

Deanna said Sky Muster was an essential tool in her
participation in this program.

“Email exchanges and access to video conferencing services
allowed myself and my mentor to communicate often and openly.

“It’s critical for
people living in locations where fixed wireless connections aren’t available to
have the same access as those living in metropolitan areas.

“In many rural communities, business owners and employees
are not able to work from an office in town, so for them, Sky Muster is
fundamental to helping them grow their business and achieve personal and
professional goals,” Deanna said.

What is Sky Muster?

The Sky Muster™ satellite
service delivers the nbn™ broadband access network to homes and
businesses in regional and remote Australia, via two state-of-the-art
satellites. So, people across mainland Australia and Tasmania, and remote
islands such as Norfolk Island, Christmas Island, Lord Howe Island and the
Cocos (Keeling) Islands can now enjoy nbn™ powered plans through
Sky Muster™ satellite providers.

As well as the roof satellite
dish installed on the home or business, Sky Muster™ satellite connections also
require an nbn™ supplied modem to be installed at the point where
the cable from the satellite dish enters the premises. This device requires
power to operate, and can only be installed by an approved nbn™
installer or provider.
