Beachgoers are urged to do their bit to keep our beaches safe and open for all this weekend, with Sutherland Shire Lifeguards working with local authorities to manage crowd numbers ahead of a predicted increase in temperatures.
With COVID Safe measures still in place restricting the capacity of local beaches and public spaces, Sutherland Shire Mayor, Councillor Steve Simpson, said it was vital that local residents and visitors to the region plan ahead if they intend to visit local beaches, taking care to avoid peak demand times.
“We know residents and visitors will be eager to make the most of warm weather by heading to our local beaches and outdoor open spaces, but we are urging everyone to plan carefully and not become complacent to ensure we can maintain social distancing,” Mayor Simpson said.
“It’s a team effort from all of us to combat the threat of COVID-19 community transmission and there are plenty of ways to continue enjoying our natural surrounds in a COVID Safe manner.”
Under the directives of leading health authorities, Council advises those considering visits to local beaches, parks and other popular public spaces lining the coastline and waterways to adhere to the following guidelines:
